ADDS, DROPS, & WITHDRAWALS
UCSC Summer Session policies and practices may differ from those that occur during the regular academic year and from those at other UC campuses. Read through the following policies regarding adding, dropping and refunds closely.
You must officially drop your course to avoid receiving an F or NP (No Pass). Failure to drop your course will result in continued billing. The drop procedure must be followed even if you never attend class. Stopping payment of your check will result in additional canceled check charges.
To Add or Drop Courses
Step-by-step instructions on using the Student Portal are available by clicking on the links below:
If you drop a course, receipt of a refund is based on the date on which the course is dropped, not the last day you attended the class.
NOTE: If you enroll in any UCSC Summer Sessions course(s) and later drop all classes, you will be charged a $50 nonrefundable cancellation fee. You will not be charged the $50 cancellation fee as long as you remain enrolled in at least one class. See Refund Policy
REMEMBER:

REMEMBER:
- You must drop courses by the deadlines in the Calendar; failure to attend classes does not constitute an official drop of the course!
- There is no "Add by Petition" in the summer; the add deadline is firm.
- There is no "Administrative Drop by Instructor" in the summer; the drop deadline is firm.
- If you are eligible for UC Financial Aid but decline the aid, you must still DROP your classes to avoid being charged for them.
To Withdraw from Specific Courses
After the drop deadline has passed, you may still petition to withdraw and receive a Withdraw (W) Grade from the course at the Summer Session Office during our business hours (see the Calendar for deadlines). No refunds will be given for courses from which you have withdrawn. While the W grade you receive will not be calculated in your GPA, it will appear on your official transcripts, and may impact your progress to degree. Once this petition is filed with the Summer Session Office, it may not be rescinded. Petitions for a W grade cannot be submitted after the deadline specified in the Summer Session Calendar.
